About Aptum
Aptum AI is a data and AI consultancy for private-equity-backed operating companies in the lower-middle market. We architect the data layer these businesses run on, then build the software that makes that data usable: pricing engines, quote tools, and the internal applications that replace spreadsheets and manual workflows.
Most data work stops at a dashboard. Ours doesn't. Operators don't act on read-only reports. They act on software that does the work. That conviction is the practice, and this role builds it.
The role
You are the build engine for the application layer. Aptum designs the architecture and owns the client relationship. You write the production code that turns the design into working software an operating company uses every day.
This is hands-on engineering on live systems with real users, not prototypes. You ship, you own what you ship, and you watch it run inside a real business.
What you will build
- -Pricing engines that normalize messy vendor data into a single automated price.
- -Quote and ordering tools that run off a shared pricing layer for both web and manual workflows.
- -Ingestion pipelines that pull from vendor portals, APIs, and files on a schedule, with change tracking.
- -Internal operational software: margin reconciliation, order tracking, branded document generation in PDF and Excel.
- -Integrations with the systems operators already use, including e-commerce, accounting, and CRM.
What you bring
- -Strong Python. You write clean, production-grade backend code and APIs without supervision.
- -Range across the stack. You can stand up a usable internal front-end when the work calls for it.
- -Data fluency. SQL, warehouses, and pipelines are familiar ground, not a stretch.
- -Judgment in ambiguity. You take a target and a rough spec and drive to a working result, asking sharp questions instead of waiting for perfect requirements.
- -Speed with care. You move fast and you don't ship fragile work on systems a business depends on.
AI tooling
You treat AI tooling as a real part of how you build. Claude is an active co-developer in our codebases, and you direct it well.
Stack
Python and cloud-deployed services are the core. You do not need every item in the stack, but you should be comfortable learning quickly around the edges.
Engagement
Contract and project-based, with the intent of an ongoing relationship across client builds rather than a single engagement. This is Aptum's first dedicated build seat. As the practice's software work grows, the right partner grows with it.
Remote, with meaningful overlap with US Central business hours. Rate commensurate with experience.
