Software Engineer - Build Partner

Aptum AIRemoteContract / project-based

Company Description

Aptum AI is a data and AI advisory for private-equity-backed operating companies in the lower-middle market. We architect the data layer these businesses run on, then build the software that makes that data usable: pricing engines, quote tools, and the AI-enabled internal applications that replace spreadsheets and manual workflows.

Most data work stops at a dashboard. Ours doesn't. Operators don't act on read-only reports. They act on software that does the work. That conviction is the practice, and this role builds it.

The role

You are the build engine for the application layer. Aptum AI designs the architecture and owns the client relationship. You write the production code that turns the design into working software an operating company uses every day.

This is hands-on engineering on live systems with real users, not prototypes. You ship, you own what you ship, and you watch it run inside a real business.

What you will build

  • -Pricing engines that normalize messy vendor data into a single automated price.
  • -Quote and ordering tools that run off a shared pricing layer for both web and manual workflows.
  • -Ingestion pipelines that pull from vendor portals, APIs, and files on a schedule, with change tracking.
  • -Internal operational software: margin reconciliation, order tracking, branded document generation in PDF and Excel.
  • -Integrations with the systems operators already use, including e-commerce, accounting, and CRM.

Technical Stack

Python and cloud-deployed services are the core. You do not need every item in the stack, but you should be comfortable learning quickly around the edges.

AI tooling

You treat AI tooling as a real part of how you build. You know how to orchestrate Claude Code, Codex, and other open-source coding tools as part of your workflow.

Qualifications

  • -Strong foundation in Computer Science, including algorithms, data structures, and systems design.
  • -Proficiency in Software Development and Programming, with experience delivering production-grade applications.
  • -Hands-on experience in Back-End Web Development, building APIs, services, and integrations with third-party tools.
  • -Solid understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) and clean, modular code practices.
  • -Experience working with databases, data modeling, and data pipelines for analytics or reporting.
  • -Ability to collaborate closely with non-technical stakeholders to translate operational needs into technical solutions.
  • -Comfort operating in fast-paced, pilot-style environments with rapid iteration and direct customer interaction.
  • -Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • -Familiarity with modern development tools and practices (version control, testing, CI/CD).

Engagement

Contract and project-based, with the intent of an ongoing relationship across client builds rather than a single engagement. This is Aptum AI's first dedicated build seat. As the practice's software work grows, the right partner grows with it.
